Scope of Work
Located in Coburg, this home began as a modest single storey brick dwelling with a traditional layout typical of its era. While it had solid foundations and a generous garden, the original home offered limited space, light, and flexibility for modern family life.
The project involved a carefully planned rear addition, including a mezzanine level, along with internal changes that reshaped how the home is used day to day. The works focused on improving flow, increasing natural light, and creating spaces that feel open, practical, and connected.
The main living areas were reworked to include a new kitchen and living space that now form the heart of the home. Cathedral ceilings introduce height and volume, allowing light to move through the space and giving the home a greater sense of openness. High level glazing draws daylight deeper into the home while maintaining privacy.
Above the living area, a mezzanine level provides a flexible study and storage area, offering additional functionality while remaining visually connected to the space below.
A restrained palette of natural, durable materials was used throughout as part of a sustainable construction. Timber joinery adds warmth and continuity across the interiors, from integrated storage to custom cabinetry, helping the original home and the new works sit comfortably together.
The kitchen features a terrazzo stone benchtop, continuing the material language used throughout the home and providing a surface that is both durable and well suited to everyday use.
The works also included a new bedroom with attic space, a separate laundry and ensuite, and a covered outdoor entertaining area that extends the living spaces into the garden and supports daily family life.
A new garage was added as part of the project, complete with its own attic space, providing valuable storage while maintaining a considered and cohesive overall form.
The rear addition is designed to sit comfortably with the existing home, using corrugated cladding and timber windows and doors that bring in light and connect the home to the garden.
The result is a thoughtful transformation that takes a traditional Coburg home and reworks it into a calm, functional, and light filled space designed to support contemporary living.
