Located in Kew East, this project involved the transformation of a 100-year-old Art Deco residence protected by a heritage overlay. Our role was to deliver a complex alteration and addition that balanced heritage requirements with the structural demands of a modern family home.

The build required significant demolition of the original single-leaf masonry construction to allow for a new open plan layout. Large steel members were installed to support the reconfigured structure, creating generous, light-filled spaces that form the heart of the home.

A new grand entrance stairway became a defining element of the project. Built from core-filled masonry with suspended concrete slabs, it provides a solid, permanent foundation and sets the tone for the level of detail carried throughout.

The interior showcases a rich material palette. High end 2pac joinery, solid brass hardware and wool carpet are paired with oak herringbone floors, Italian terrazzo and natural stone tiles. Granite benchtops in the kitchen and bar areas sit alongside custom steel doors, feature lighting and hydronic heating, contributing to a home built for long-term performance.

We worked closely with the existing structure, matching new work to the original ceiling roses and cornices so that every junction between old and new feels intentional.

The result is a home that balances its heritage roots with a contemporary build, offering spaces designed for family life.
